Dusseldorf Stadtmitte
With 1.77 square kilometers and about 15,000 inhabitants, Stadtmitte is one of the most densely populated parts of the city. Stadtmitte is the economic center of the state capital. The district is bordered on the west by the old town with Carlstadt and on the east by the Cologne-Duisburg railroad line with the main station. Stadtmitte is characterized by great contrasts, which can be seen in the formation of various unofficial quarters. The banking district comprises the four streets running parallel in a north-south direction – Kasernenstrasse, Breite Strasse, Königsallee and Berliner Allee – and forms part of the financial center of Dusseldorf. In addition to numerous offices, the district offers the highest concentration of retail stores in Dusseldorf, including four large department stores and three shopping centers. The most important shopping street is Schadowstrasse, which is one of the busiest and highest-turnover streets in Germany. Königsallee, Dusseldorf’s luxury shopping street, is known nationally and internationally. Dusseldorf Düsseltal
Is a district in the city district 2 of Dusseldorf, which originally developed around a monastery. The frequently used name Zooviertel goes back to the zoolo-gic garden, which was located here from 1876 to 1943. Among the population, the district is often called Zooviertel, or zoo for short; accordingly, the name of the Dusseldorf-Zoo suburban train station refers to this frequently used district name. Düsseltal covers an area of 2.9 km² and has about 28,100 inhabitants. The district is particularly popular with families: their share of the district population is 16.5 percent. Dusseldorf Pempelfort
Because of its central location, its dense, mixed and historic development and its character by small businesses of the cultural and creative industries, it is considered a neighborhood with an urban atmosphere. Therefore, it is popular with young people and singles. The social structure in the district is multifaceted – both in terms of age and the income of its residents. There are many long-established residents who maintain the traditions of their respective communities; on the other hand, there is a high turnover, for example, of employees of large Dusseldorf companies who come from all over Germany and other countries and choose to live in Pempelfort for the duration of their employment. Dusseldorf Rath
The district is located in the immediate vicinity of Dusseldorf Airport and borders the city of Ratingen. Since 2011, some Rath merchants have joined forces to form the community Wir in Rath (WIR). The merchants’ community (which presents itself as non-political) is led by members of the Rath CDU, including councilors as well as the member of the Bundestag for the Dusseldorf II parliamentary constituency, Sylvia Pantel. Wir in Rath (WIR) organizes joint festivities for Rath’s citizens in an attempt to boost the district and, in particular, the sales of the businesses it represents on Westfalenstrasse. With the neighborhood around Westfalenstrasse, Rath has been participating in the KiQ – Kooperation im Quartier (Cooperation in the Neighborhood) research field since 2012 and is thus one of 14 model projects nationwide. The research project is being carried out as part of the Experimental Housing and Urban Development program. Local owners’ associations and municipalities are testing new forms of cooperation in order to jointly upgrade inner-city residential neighborhoods and housing stock.
